Who We Need:
We’re looking for a mobile Engineering Manager to guide the continued development of our emerging flagship remittance product. You will be a highly visible internal leader inspiring your team to deliver amazing products for users. The right leader will be committed to performance, results, and operational excellence. We are looking not only for a strategic, innovative thinker, but someone who has proven they can execute, communicate, and be accountable.
This is a hands-on keyboard role. Approximately 50% of your time will be spent writing and reviewing code (Swift and Kotlin) with the remainder focused on people and processes.
**This is a REMOTE position, based in the U.S. Quarterly travel to Atlanta will be required.** Eligible states of residence: CO, FL, GA, IL, TX
What You’ll Do:
- Offer technical guidance and experience to the team including architectural decisions, code reviews, and best practices.
- Lead a team of 4 engineers developing native SDKs in Swift, SwiftUI, Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and little leftover XML based views.
- Jump into the code. Approximately 50% of your time will be spent hands-on coding.
- Provide expertise on the unique challenges of embedded native SDK development and production monitoring.
- Bring an entrepreneurial attitude and a “roll up your sleeves” mentality to evaluating competing issues and assessing the product.
- Dive deep into the product with the team to gain a thorough understanding of the product and the underlying technology.
- Work closely with teams across Brightwell to deliver projects on time and within scope, identifying risks and implementing strategies to mitigate them along the way.
- Identify and successfully implement improvements in our engineering processes, tools, and architecture to enable us to deliver on our key initiatives.
- Be an effective spokesperson and champion for the engineering team.
- Influence continuous engineering improvement through mentoring, coaching, and metrics.
- Stay on top of current industry trends and best practices and help to implement them within the team ensuring an optimized, stable, scalable, software engineering environment.
- Take on other challenges as needed.
As Engineering Manager, you have:
- 5+ years of experience in software engineering, including hands-on coding experience and architectural design.
- 2+ years of experience managing distributed software engineering teams.
- Knowledge of native mobile (iOS and Android) development.
- A broad skill base covering business, technology, user experience, and leadership. You transition seamlessly between managerial activities and low-level technical details, dropping into code to help the team meet its objectives while keeping your skill set sharp.
- Proven ability to deliver complex projects spanning months of development.
- Experience coaching and mentoring individuals at various levels of experience, from leaders to individual contributors.
